FC Kairat winger Andrey Arshavin has been named the Transfer of the Year, as Kazakhstan media Prosports continue to pubslish end of the year review.
Transfer of the Year – Arshavin (FC Kairat)
Arrival of Andrey Arshavin to FC Kairat has been the main headline at the start of 2016 season. A famous newcomer arrived in Almaty at the end of February as a free agent, however he signed the contract only on March 18. During this time Arshavin was training with the club, getting back into shape.
At first, the transfer of ex-player of Zenit St. Petersburrg, Arsenal, Kuban and Russian national team gave impressions of no more than another PR-event from FC Kairat. It was often the case of negative or ironical news coverage linked with Arshavin. When Borodyuk, a former manager of Kairat left the club, there were rumours that Arshavin could also leave the club and end his career. However, everything changed when Andrey was back in good condition and became of the most vital players for the club this season under Kakhaber Tskhadadze. At the end, Arshavin scored 11 goals for Kairat and forced the critics away from him. He scored 8 goals in the Premier League, twice in the UEFA Europa League and one in Kazakh Cup. His goal against Taraz boomed the internet. After Arshavin's 8th goal in the Premier League, local blogger Peter Volikov was forced to keep his promise and fully shaved his head.
